Trip to Abu Dhabi- NYUAD Candidate Weekend

I have some very exciting news to share today. Allow me to begin with a backstory. A few weeks ago, I applied to New York University Abu Dhabi as an early decision applicant. I always wanted to attend NYU, but I had originally intended to apply to only their NYC campus. I went to an off-campus open house and learned more about NYUAD--that's when I fell in love. Their mission is to provide a top-class education with unique opportunities to study abroad and get a graduate with a truly global outlook. Having lived around the world and traveled to almost every continent, this sounded like an incredible opportunity to me. I decided to apply because I knew that by doing so, I wouldn't be losing anything. I put everything I had into that application and sent it off with my family's blessings. As any curious student does, I spent the next few weeks researching every aspect of the university, which made me even more anxious than I already was (I didn't even think that was possible). I found out about this really neat program that they had called the Candidate Weekend. This is basically (from what I understand) the university's chance to learn about their applicants' personalities and what could not be simply put into words on the applications; things such as people skills, speaking skills, genuine curiosity, etc. I dug a little deeper and found plenty of pictures of and reviews about the CW. What I soon found out, however, is that only application finalists would be invited and receive free airfare, housing, and food to attend the CW. This did discourage me a bit, but I kept my head up and trusted that I'd done everything I could throughout my secondary educational career and that worrying was not worth it at that point.
A few weeks later, I get an email from NYUAD inviting me to attend the Candidate Weekend from December 3rd to December 6th. I was shocked and surprised and overjoyed and simply ecstatic. First of all, that meant that I was an application finalist (!!!) and second of all, that I'd be going to FREAKING ABU DHABI!!! My family and I made a cute little pool in our living room from our tears of joy. They were all so proud of me and happy for me, and couldn't wait for me to embark on this journey of a lifetime.
I was so excited that I started packing over a week in advance--I needed to make sure that I looked on point those few days. Several days before the trip, I received my travel itinerary and details on the weekend. The excitement at this point was beyond words. NYUAD set up a private Facebook group for the students attending the CW to interact before meeting at Abu Dhabi. At this point, I was absolutely elated.
I am currently on my flight to New York, which was scheduled to leave at 17:25, but due to bad weather conditions, took off at 19:15. It is scheduled to land at 21:45 and my flight to Abu Dhabi is at 22:00. I am really not sure if I'll make it, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Stay tuned for more updates :)
